Yoink (aka Joe Tallarico) is a Chicago-based artist whose work is influenced by junk collecting, music, comics, op-art and old television shows. He has been described as exceptionally psychedelic, and his repetitive hand-drawn lines create a vibrating landscape to compliment ominous characters. He regularly exhibits his work in Chicago and elsewhere, most notably Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and New York, and has participated in several shows that have toured the globe. Nolen Strals (as Post Typography with Bruce Willen) once gave a lecture to the Society of Publication Designers in NYC. Nolen and Bruce passed on going to the dinner afterwards (where they could have 'networked' with lots big name NYC designers) to go play a show at a dive bar with their punk band Double Dagger. That sorta sums it all up.

Scott Sugiuchi has been a graphic designer for over 20 years and still finds Fine Art daunting and is prone to confusion when faced with any form of artistic freedom. Originally from Orlando, Florida, Sugiuchi has created commercial art for the House of Blues, the National Basketball Association, several low-to-no-paying record labels (for indie cred!), Artisan Pictures, the American Film Institute, and by golly, Atomic Books amongst others. Sugiuchi is currently design director and partner at Exit10, a full blown advertising and design agency. That makes him The Man.

Rock Band Competition FAQ

We've been asked many questions about how this competition will go. So here are some clarifications:

1. It's $5 for your band to play per song. It's all for our charity - Moveable Feast.

2. One person bands are allowed. But you must play at least 2 instruments. I mean, come on.

3. Sign up will only take place that night. So the earlier you get there the better. It starts at 7pm.

4. You can play in more than one band.

5. You can play the songs on any level you choose.

6. DLC songs will be available for play as well as the standards.

7. Songs will be chosen AT RANDOM for your band to play. But don't worry, songs that are too short or too long have been taken out of the pool in order to keep the score potential fairly even.

8. The winning band is determined by the highest band score.

Any more questions?

ETA: Yes, you can bring your own guitar.

Rock Band Competition

For the next First Friday, we're having our annual fundraiser for Team Atomic & Ride for the Feast, a bike riding event for Moveable Feast, a non profit organization that delivers meals to people living with AIDS and cancer.

This year it's a Rock Band competition! Bring your band, form a band there with other players, or sing and play an instrument by yourself! The winning band wins a $100 Atomic gift card for each member!

There will also be raffles at the event for various awesome goods:

Rock Band for the 360 Xbox, donated by the good people at Harmonix, the creators of Rock Band.

A 3 game pack for the 360 from Big Huge Games.

Jimmy Foo has always been a collector, anything and everything but mostly plastic toys. The collecting has had its uses as he's also a sculptor and most things he collect end up being incorporated into sculptures. Over the years his work has ranged from bronze castings to room sized installations to teeny tiny kitbashes. Vinyl toy customizing is but a fairly recent deviation, some examples of his customs can be found on the Vinyl Toy Freaks Forum where he can also be readily contacted.

Born in Boston in the Fall of 1984 to an Irish American sailor and a Chinese Canadian librarian, Ming's formative years were spent at the Nation's oldest co-educational institution and oldest continuously running boarding school, with a brief layover in the People's Republic of China for some noodles. In 2007 she earned a BFA from Cornell University with a dual concentration in painting and drawing and is currently working on art every day and all night.

Tony Shore is a painter who lives in Baltimore and is known for his paintings on black velvet depicting blue collar life in Baltimore. He is a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts, The Maryland Institute College of Art, and Yale University School of Art. He is currently a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art and is the Executive Director and Founder of Access Art, a community based art program in Southwest Baltimore. He has exhibited his work throughout the U.S. as well as in Europe and Asia. He is represented locally by the C. Grimaldis Gallery.

If he could design the world, everything would look like a cross between Tokyo and Coney Island with plenty of Mexican taco stands and dirty bookstores. Stephen Blickenstaff was born October 15, 1961 in Frederick, Maryland. He is most notably known for drawing The Cramps ‘Bad Music for Bad People’ record album cover in 1983. Stephen has also designed record covers and t-shirts for bands such as They Might Be Giants, Thin White Rope, The Graves Brothers Deluxe and Love Tractor among others. His work has appeared in various publications such as Dark Horse Presents, Weirdo, Guitar World, Psychotronic Video, Screw and Draculina. Stephen also painted the cover for the Living Dead Dolls Tour Book. A series of Stephen’s monster illustrations were licensed for vending machine stickers, a computer screensaver program called ScreamSavers, and a Burton snowboard. Blickenstaff has been showing his art in national galleries and recently was invited to create a Bart Simpson art piece for an international traveling art show to help promote the release of the Simpsons movie in Europe and Asia. He also recently contributed to Les Barany's Carnivora book and art show.

Stephen John Phillips received a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College Of Art and his M.F.A. from the University of Delaware. His photographs have been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

Selected Exhibitions include; The Marcuse Pfeifer Gallery (New York,N.Y.), The Barbara Fendrick Gallery (Washington,D.C) ,The Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris (Paris, France), and The Museum of Art and History (Fribourg, Switzerland).

Editorial Publications include; MacAddict, Design Graphics,Computer Graphics World, Entertainment Weekly, Print , Camera & Darkroom, High Fashion Tokyo, Playboy, Zoom, American Photographer, Popular Photography, Black & White, Photo (French) and The New York Times.

He has also created covers and comics for DC/Vertigo Comics.

Michael Bracco is a Baltimore based artist who graduated in 01' from MICA with a BFA in Illustration. Presently he is a comic creator whose books include "Birth" and "Novo" and runs a Craft business with his wife Shawna.
